The Wildest, Craziest Paint Colors Available in 2020

The Addams Family would not approve of any of these crazy paint options.

Wildest Car Colors 2020

The color of a car can say a lot about a person and even speak to the driver's purpose in life. Orange is commonly used to warn of road construction projects ahead, whereas beige is synonymous with a clear message: Hello, folding silverware is my kink. More than a quarter of new automobiles sold last year in North America left the lot wearing white. Shades of black, gray, and silver make up over half of the market, leaving just 21 percent of cars sold last year in some flavor of red, green, or blue.

The good news is that automakers still offer some eye-catching hues for the extroverts who prefer their cars to stand out. Way out. Here are some of the most unusual and outlandish paint jobs. Even if, statistically speaking, most people are unlikely to actually buy them.

Sublime – 2020 Dodge Charger/Challenger

The latest of FCA's high-impact colors, Sublime is one of the most retina-searing available. Dodge first introduced the bright shade of green in 1970 and brought it back in 2007 for some special editions. Sublime is now a permanent fixture of both the Challenger and Charger catalogs. Suffice it to say, it's not for the faint of heart.

Glowing Yellow – 2020 Hyundai Sonata

Hyundai rolled out an all-new Sonata for the 2020 model year and, to highlight its dynamic styling, is offering it in a vibrant Glowing Yellow. It's only available on the SEL Plus, the penultimate of four trim levels offered. Like many of the outlandish colors on this list, it's not for everyone. But if you want your Sonata to stand out from all the other mid-size sedans on the road, this could be the way to do it.

Stainless Steel (or Matte Black) – 2022 Tesla Cybertruck

Tesla has managed to make waves (and headlines) again with the reveal of its new Cybertruck. Boasting impressive specs and an unusually angular design, it's still a couple of years away from entering production. So far, the disruptive electric-vehicle manufacturer has only shown it in its bare stainless-steel bodywork, but when a fan asked on Twitter if he'd offer the Cybertruck in matte black, the typically outspoken Elon Musk replied with a single word: "Sure."

Lantana Purple – McLaren

Ever since the late 1960s when founder Bruce McLaren painted his F1 and Can-Am racers in Papaya, McLaren has elevated the color orange to something of a signature. These days you can get your British-built supercar in no fewer than fourshades of orange, which is more than you're likely to find from any other automaker. But the color that caught our eye is Lantana Purple, a purple so deep it looks like it could belt out its own rendition of "Smoke on the Water." It looks especially rockin' on the McLaren 600LT Spider.

Pastel Collection – Rolls-Royce

As if to thumb its nose at Henry Ford's infamous declaration, Rolls-Royce will paintyour pricey new ride just about any color you want, full stop. Rolls-Royce Bespoke regularly rolls out unique aesthetic treatments to highlight the virtually endless possibilities. The Pastel Collection was revealed at Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in summer 2019 and included a coral Dawn convertible, a yellow Wraith coupe, and an aquamarine Ghost saloon.

Verde Chiaro – 2019 Fiat 500

Fiat occasionally offers a special 1957 Edition of its soon-to-be-discontinued 500 hatchback, one that takes the 500 in an even more retro direction with old-timey wheels, trim, badging, and special paint. Our favorite is Verde Chiaro, a light greenthat reminds us of our mother's KitchenAid mixer.

Blush Pearl – 2020 Aston Martin

You may not be able to buy a pink Cadillac these days (much to Bruce Springsteen's chagrin), but you can buy a pink Aston Martin. In addition to the 31 standard paint choices available on a model like the Vantage, the company's Q Branch offers another 23, including a shade called Blush Pearl. It's nowhere near as hot as the hue on Clint Eastwood's Caddy, but it's definitely pink.

Indy Yellow Pearl – 2020 Acura NSX

The Acura NSX isn't the only car you can get in yellow, but this shade has a bit of history behind it. This past summer, Honda dug into its back catalog and brought back Indy Yellow Pearl, a shade it originally offered on the first-generation NSX (then often called Spa Yellow). Roughly one-fifth of all original NSXs made between 1997 and 2003 (when the color was replaced by Rio Yellow) were orderedin this color, and the Japanese automaker hopes it'll be at least as popular with buyers of the new hybrid supercar.

Gold Chrome Wrap – 2019 Honda Civic Type R and NSX

This year, Honda celebrated its 50th anniversary in the Australian market. So, howdid it mark the occasion? By wrapping some of its best products—wheeled or not—in shiny gold vinyl. The special treatment was applied to both the Civic Type R and the Acura NSX as well as a lawnmower, a portable electric generator, and a trio of motorcycles. Unfortunately, Honda won't do the same for you, but there's surely any of a number of independent shops that will.

Hakone Green – 2020 Toyota 86 Hakone Edition

You don't have to look very far to find a new car available in dark green, but one of our favorites is the Toyota 86 Hakone Edition. Named after one of Japan's most famous driving roads, the Hakone Edition wears a special shade of green you'd sooner expect to find on a classic British sports car, but it looks right at home on the Toyota, especially with a bronze finish on the 17-inch alloys and deep-tan leather and black Alcantara interior.

Kyalami Green – 2020 Audi TT RS

The 2020 TT RS is offered in Kyalami Green, which sounds and looks like Kawasaki Green, of motorcycle fame, and the hue totally works on Audi's small, chunky sports car.

Dragon Orange Metallic – 2019 Audi Q8

Like we said, there's an awful lot of orange going around these days. The Audi Q8's version is dubbed Dragon Orange Metallic, and it is worth mentioning because, well, the Q8 is an awful lot of SUV to be painted orange.

13 of 43

Julep Pale Mustard – Bentley

Ordering up a new Bentley? You'll have dozens upon dozens of exterior paint colors to choose from, including Julep. Described as a "harmonious, refined, warm green gold," Julep is the unusual shade of metallic mustard. Bentley chose it to showcase the Mulsanne Speed, one of its most expensive models, and it offers thecolor across its lineup as part of its Mulliner personalization division's catalog.

Pulse Orange – 2020 Audi Q3

The Audi Q3 is another compact crossover dancing to the luxe-beat. Striking style on the outside, with a load of standard features on the inside make the Q3 the best Q3 ever. Here it is in Pulse Orange.

Antigua Blue – 2020 Audi e-tron

Audi's first ever fully electric vehicle, the e-tron, is available in Antigua Blue. The color is almost pastel in appearance, and capable of appearing very bright when it catches the sun. It is also worth mentioning that on many of Audi's sport models (think RS7, R8, and the like), you can choose from more than 50 exclusive colors for an extra $3900, and some matte colors for $6800; both figures strike us as a good deal in the often pricier world of exclusive paint.

Sunset Orange Metallic – 2019 BMW M2, 8-series

Yet another orange! BMW's Sunset Orange Metallic is available on the new 8-Series, as well as the 2019 M2 Competition coupe.

17 of 43

Austin Yellow Metallic – 2019 BMW M4

Whew, we only just avoided another orange color, there. If you're looking at an M4 coupe, skip the Sakhir Orange Metallic paint option and go for something louder. May we recommend Austin Yellow Metallic instead?

(Pictured is an earlier model-year M4 coupe in Austin Yellow; the coupe was given minor updates for 2018.)

E-Copper with Frozen Grey Accent – 2019 BMW i8

Or, if you want to really set yourself apart, while still being very reasonable and staying in the orange family, try an i8 in the E-Copper with Frozen Grey Accent combination.

19 of 43

Autumn Metallic – 2019 Cadillac XT4

By now, you've picked up on the whole orange theme, and are asking, "How special is a color really if everyone seems to offer a version of it?" The thing is, orange clearly is the color of 2019. Plus, it is still worth talking about when it's on a Cadillac. Just say it to yourself: "That's my orange Cadillac out front." Sounds wild, right? Hey, this roundup is all about wild paint colors, and Autumn Metallic, as seen here on the XT4 counts.

Shock – 2020 Chevrolet Camaro

If you're in the market for a Chevrolet Bolt, Sonic, or 2020 Camaro (pictured) and you want everyone to know about it, consider Shock. That's it, the entire color name. Zap! It looks vaguely like what a metallic highlighter pen might produce, so the name is nothing if not appropriate. On the Camaro, this shocking hue is a $395 option.

21 of 43

Sebring Orange Tintcoat – 2019 Chevrolet Corvette

If you find Chevy's Shock too shocking, there is always Sebring Orange Tintcoat. Available on the Corvette, it is bright but not too bright and works very well with the Vette's contrasting-color trim, particularly on the 755-hp ZR1 model (pictured).

22 of 43

Sunlit Bronze Metallic – 2019 Chevrolet Blazer

Look, we guess this is still in the orange family, but you have to admit that the 2020 Chevrolet Blazer's Sunlit Bronze Metallic is pretty bizarre. It looks a little out of place on the decidedly sporty looking, street-oriented SUV, but there's no denying it is eye-catching.

23 of 43

Go Mango – 2019 Dodge Challenger, Charger

It has to be said that Dodge is winning the paint game hands down, not least because of its excellent names for those paints. Your Challenger or Charger can—and probably should—be had in the extremely neon Go Mango orange which, alongside the Thermal Orange Pearl of the NSX, is a strong contender for best orange in the history of the automobile.

24 of 43

F8 Green – 2019 Dodge Challenger, Charger

Go Mango is merely the first page in Dodge's book of paint-color supremacy. How about a 2019 Challenger in F8 Green, which for all intents and purposes is an army-style olive drab green, as seen on helicopters, canteens, and uniforms. 'Murica!

25 of 43

Plum Crazy – 2019 Dodge Challenger, Charger

Yes, we're listing a third fun color for the same two cars. The Dodge Challenger and Charger also can be slathered in Plum Crazy, which is a sweet historical nod to the purple-colored muscle cars Dodge built in the '60s and '70s.

26 of 43

Racing Stripes – 2019 Dodge Durango SRT

If you're not into Dodge's muscle cars, fret not, the brand's mainstream offerings aren't without over-the-top color schemes. Take the massive Durango crossover, for instance. It can be had with giant red or black racing stripes running up the hood, over the roof, and down the tailgate.

27 of 43

Bohai Bay Mint – 2019 Ford Fiesta

You'd be forgiven for assuming that, of all the vehicles in Ford's stable, the Ford GT supercar would have the most outrageous color offering possible. Not true! It actually is the lowly subcompact Fiesta . . . and not even the sporty ST version (rest its soul). The Fiesta SE hatchback offers Bohai Bay Mint which is exactly what it sounds like, a sort of seafoam green that will definitely turn heads.

28 of 43

School Bus Yellow – 2019 Ford Transit Connect

Even though it isn't, ahem, a bus, you can still buy a Ford Transit Connect van in School Bus Yellow. We won't judge if you decide to add a fold-out stop sign and flashing lights to complete the look. Actually, that'd look pretty cool.

29 of 43

Need for Green – 2019 Ford Mustang

Ford has a few good greens. Next to the Mustang's subtle Dark Highland Green offered exclusively on the Bullitt edition, Ford also offers the far more in-your-face Need for Green on regular 'stangs.

30 of 43

Orange Fury – 2019 Honda Fit

It turns out that the subcompact Honda Fit offers an Orange Fury, just like Ford's Mustang, albeit without that muscle car's, uh, fury.
